Hi Friends ![]()
I wanted to share a little about a beautiful and vibrant festival we’re celebrating this week from the Indian culture — it’s called Navratri, and it leads up to Dussehra (also known as Vijayadashami).
What is Navratri?
Navratri (which means “nine nights”) is a colorful, joy-filled Hindu festival that honors the divine feminine energy. Over nine nights, different aspects of Goddess Durga — a symbol of strength, love, and protection — are worshipped. Many families light lamps, dress in bright traditional clothing, and enjoy music, dancing (like Garba and Dandiya!), and delicious food.
What is Dussehra / Vijayadashami?
The tenth day is called Dussehra or Vijayadashami, and it marks the victory of good over evil — like the legend of Lord Rama defeating the demon king Ravana. Across India, people celebrate with parades, storytelling, fireworks, and burning symbolic effigies of Ravana, reminding us that good always triumphs.
Why I’m Sharing This
Even though we’re far from India, these traditions live on in our homes and hearts — and it’s always beautiful to share and celebrate different cultures with our community. If you’re curious, I’d be happy to share more or even show you some of the traditional sweets or music we enjoy during this time!
Wishing everyone peace, joy, and the strength to conquer whatever challenges you’re facing — just like the stories behind these festivals remind us to do. ![]()
